Community Service

An important part of my mission as a visual artist is building community through the arts. The most powerful way of doing this is working as a volunteer with non-profits. My workshops focus on providing participants with the materials and tools needed to create process-based art, but also a safe space to create without an attachment to perfectionism or judgment. The focus is on freedom of expression, staying in the present moment, and collaborating with others. This type of community-based art experience not only creates valuable connections but also can generate new perspectives about artistic processes.  If you are a non-profit that would like to schedule a workshop with me, please contact me through the button below

Garden Place Academy

During COVID, most schools were operating without access to the arts. I reached out to Garden Place Academy in Globeville, which at the time was less than a mile from my art studio. I wanted to see if they’d like me to volunteer at their school in the art room. They graciously opened their doors to me, and I was able to provide an immersive art experience with students grades prek-5th during April and May of 2021.

It was so wonderful getting to bring art to students who had been without an art teacher for the year. This video, filmed by Denver videographer Cam Margera, is a peek into a lesson with some of the students from Garden Place Academy

The Gathering Place

In 2020-2021, I had the pleasure of volunteering at the Welcome Desk at The Gathering Place (TGP) in Denver. TGP offers services to combat poverty and address the impacts of marginalization and oppression that are often contributing factors to poverty or homelessness. TGP guides women, transgender folx and children living in poverty from a place of crisis and instability to one of stability and security.

In spring 2022, I designed and taught an abstract workshop for members of TGP. The video shows just a bit of some of the work we did together as a community of creatives. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with TGP staff and its members.
